Kate Middleton and Prince William send thank you notes to Prince George well-wishers

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge said they were 'most touched' that people took the trouble to send their congratulations

"Most touched": Kate and Wills thanked those who had taken the trouble to write to them

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have sent thank you cards to everyone who wrote to congratulate them after the birth of Prince George.

In a letter to all the well-wishers who included a return address, the royal couple said how touched they were that people had taken the trouble to write to them.

The cards have a picture of the royal couple with their newborn son outside the Lido Wing of St Mary's Hospital on the front, and a message that reads: "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were most touched that you took the trouble to write as you did on the occasion of the birth of their son Prince George.

"Their Royal Highnesses have been overwhelmed by all the wonderful messages they have received and send you their warmest thanks and best wishes."

Zoe Hall from Brighton was one well-wisher who received a thank you note, which arrived yesterday - a month after Prince George's birth.

She told the Telegraph: "I wanted to send a card as I was so excited about the announcement.

"After watching the Royal wedding and seeing their public appearances you start to feel part of their lives.

"It's nice they are recognising people's interest in them."

Kensington Palace said the Duke and Duchess were "very grateful for the support and goodwill being expressed at this happy time", and wanted to acknowledge the thousands of gifts and letters they had received.

Earlier this week Prince William gave his first interview since becoming a new father, where he described the baby prince as a little "rascal".

On Tuesday, the young family released new pictures of the three of them together at the Middleton family home in Bucklebury .
